NTC can now block text pranksters' SIM cards

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) warned criminals and pranksters who use mobile phones to send text scams it now has equipment to block their subscriber identity module (SIM) cards. Online newspaper Zamboanga Today (www.zambonews.com) reported Sunday that the NTC can use this technology if complainants lodge reports with its One-Stop Public Assistance Center (OSPAC). NTC regional director engineer Edgardo Celorico urged victims of such scams to file complaints with the NTC-OSPAC "for proper action." "Our office has obtained this modern facility that can block the SIM card of those involved in the text scam. We can even detect the exact location of the suspect," he said.
